Looking thin and wretched, they beg only for food. ![]() You stumble upon the band of brigands as they raid an apple orchard. You take pity on a pair of filthy children who approach to beg for food.Ī peasant has heard of your quest and offers you payment to protect her family from the brigands. They play poorly and soon give up what little gold they have. ![]() You find yourself in a game of dice with a pair of deserters from the Imperial Army. With a wave of his feathered hat he departs with your coin. You are confronted by a feline creature whose fine boots distract you from the fact that he's robbing you at swordpoint. For releasing her she offers to heal your wounds. You discover a pixie trapped under a jar with a rock on top. The driver pays no heed as he whips his wagon along at a fast pace. You drag your feet out from under the roots and flee.Ī wandering Devil disguised as a peasant turns you into a donkey to complement his disguise.Įventually you are released safely in another part of the forest and spend some days retracing your path.Ī health potion rolls off the back of a passing wagon as it rumbles past along the forest path. You fall asleep by a large tree and upon awakening you find yourself being consumed by it. You save a local farmer from a hungry bugbear, taking a few hits for your trouble. Dispatching it quickly, you turn it into a meal and find it surprisingly filling. You are attacked by a howling Monkey Snake as you pause to drink at a lake. Luckily none of the horned beasts come along before you pull yourself out. You fall into a spiked pit meant for catching a Bonnancon. You search the rest of brigand's gear, finding a rare potion of extended life, a few dirty rags and a pair of broken reading glasses. You discover that the brigands have all been killed, evidently due to a cursed book they stole. The woman seems surprised by your change of heart, saying, "You scare easily, don't you?" Story Her work done and her pouch newly filled with coins, the woman enters the tavern and orders a drink. You leave the small village without payment. (note, should create a section on this page for possible "mini-events" associated with the cards) With the situation with the brigands resolved, you return to the village to collect your payment only to discover that the mayor has left town on holiday for an "indefinite time". Your quest gets off to a good/bad start The player receives all 8 Pain/Gain cards. The next day you stride into the forest, intent on hunting down the brigands that have been harrying the town. She turns and enters the tavern to order her usual drink. "Suit yourself," the woman remarks, suddenly disinterested. Now that you know your fate, what will you do?" The player gains 2 Fame. The Dealer reveals a combination of 8 Pain and Gain cards. She focuses on you, thinking for a moment and tells you the outcome of your quest. You hand over the coins and they vanish into the woman's robes. ![]() "Ah, yes - danger awaits! But for a few coins I can tell you of your coming misfortunes."Ģ) Accept and learn about your future. "Now, where was I?" the Soothsayer pauses. You note that you have X deliveries left to make. "Would it kill them to kill something a little larger next time?" The player draws 1 Gain Card. "Ah, smaller than I had imagined," she mutters, holding up the tiny skull of some humanoid race you don't recognise. You hand a poorly wrapped brown package to the Soothsayer, who opens it immediately. (only if the player has the Delivery List) "For but a few coins," she continues while gripping your arm, "I can tell you of your coming misfortunes."ġ) Deliver package. You are about to embark on a quest for the mayor of a small town when a young, strangely dressed woman shouts to you, "Beware stranger!" For I have seen your future and danger awaits!"
